Lorry-loving Lisa Doorly has ripped up the rulebook to take to the wheel of a huge rubble truck – much to the surprise of blokes on building sites

A glamorous blonde has ditched her desk job to become Britain's girliest TRUCKER – transporting skips full of rubble around the country by the lorryload.

Lisa Doorly was working as an admin manager for a skip transport company when she decided she'd rather be driving monster lorries than shuffling papers and clattering keyboards.

So now pretty Lisa, from Birmingham, swaps her dainty dresses and high heels for steel toe-cap boots and sensible jeans – but insists on wearing a bright pink hi-vis top and candy-coloured hard hat.

The qualified Class 1 HGV driver, 26, said: "I spend all day carting muck and rubbish around so it's a relief take off my hard hat and hi-vis and turn back into a girlie girl again.

"Beauticians are always shocked when I go in to get my nails done when I tell them what I do for a living.

"I suppose I don't look like your typical truck driver.

"Sometimes I turn up at a building site and I've been asked if there's another driver - but as soon as they've seen me reverse a huge lorry into a tight parking spot they usually go quiet."

Lisa, who has worked for Central Tipper Hire Ltd since 2006, took less than eight months to pass her trucking tests.

She said: "I can do a bit of everything at work now: from driving to sorting out deliveries and ordering new vehicles.

"I started off just doing admin but I realised I couldn't just carry on telling the drivers what to do without doing it myself.

"It's still pretty unusual to see a woman in the cab of a giant lorry - especially in a pink hard hat and hi-vis jacket - and I've had all sorts of comments.

"But I'm just happy to be showing the boys that I can do their job just as well as them."
